The initial sketch of the first illustration of a series of sports. I usually start with a rough drawing. Even if I erase most of the drawing at the end, I like to complete it at the beginning to get a feeling for the move and dynamics.

I remember that I struggled a lot with this one. Especially to catch the light smile. When I thought it was finished, I had doubts the next day. So I worked the whole day to improve it. That’s the result.

You can see a lot of so-called smartphone junkies on the streets who are listening to music, writing messages and checking out new Facebook posts. Unfortunately I’m one of them and sometimes I find it hard to pay attention to my surroundings and check emails at the same time.

Welcome To My Mind!
… and welcome to a personal project I call »Mindshots«. From time to time I illustrate my thoughts by using this simple red, black and white style to get some ideas out of my head. The inspiration for each piece comes from my daily life while working, talking, watching a movie, and hanging out with friends, or while getting bored in the dentist’s waiting room. Some are socially critical, humorous, or just plain ridiculous.

I took a short break to change the structure of this blog. In the future you will find more work-in-progress pics, so you can see the different steps from the initial sketch to the final artwork. Sometimes I find it more interesting to see processes, thoughts and sketches than the worked-out piece – maybe you do, too. Furthermore, I shared some early works from 2011 till 2012. Portrait: Leonardo DiCaprio
I think this is my very first portrait I did with the ink and watercolor technique. It’s also one of the most complex drawings, because I used 4 different yellow/ochre tones to draw the face, starting with the brightest to the darkest color.
Portrait: Kool Savas
Here is the final portrait of Kool Savas. I wasn’t quite sure about the color way, but now I’m quite satisfied with the warm yellow and cold blue combination.
