German Design Award 2021 For »50 Mindshots«

I feel very honored that my first book »50 Mindshots« received the German Design Award 2021. The jury says:

»Imaginative illustrations on daily topics and current issues. Some critical of society, some winking or simply smiling. From cyberbullying, press freedom, exploitation of resources and burnout to the pitfalls of being in love. Statements emphasise, in the best sense, our everyday madness.«

After the Red Dot Award, the Art Director Club Nail and the 3×3 Merit award, I am so glad that this ongoing personal initiated project receives this prestigious recognition. Huge thanks to the jury. The book is availabe at Knesebeck-Verlag and on Amazon.

Book illustrations: “Wer tanzt schon gern allein!”

I am very glad that I had the chance to be part of this wonderful project: The book „Wer tanzt schon gern allein?“ („Who likes to dance all alone anyway?“) has been initiated by the personal consultant for illustrators Karin Gruß who put so much effort and enthusiasm in this project. The result is an extraordinary anthology all about the value, the importance, and the fragility of democracy. 32 authors and artists contributed their personal view on democracy by creating stories, poems, and illustrations. I met Karin at the book fair in Frankfurt in 2017 where I tried to find a publisher for my first book „50 Mindshots“. Thanks to the support of the Illustratoren Organisation E.V. and Karin, I found the right publisher soon afterward. A huge thanks to Karin Gruß and Monika Bilstein from Peter Hammer Verlag. Since I started my illustration studio »Maivisto«, I had the pleasure to work with so many nice and creative people all over the globe on dozens of enjoyable and exciting projects. Besides the clients’ work, I am glad to have met new as well as old friends and partnerships throughout the years. 100 postcards showing the roman numeral for ’20 were sent to say »Thank you!« and to celebrate the beginning of this decade with you.

Red Dot Gala 2019

On November 1st, I had the pleasure to be part of the Red Dot Gala taking place in the stunning concert hall of Berlin. My first book »50 Mindshots« has been honored by the prestigious Red Dot in »Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2019« – The distinction »Red Dot« has become established internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design« (www.red-dot.org).
